Friends, 

My name is Brandon Haskell and I am running to be re-elected to Eaton County’s 4th Commission District. I am a happily married father of two and an involved member of our community. 

For over a decade I have worked hard to make our county and our state a better place to live for everyone. I started out as a page in the Michigan House of Representatives and worked my way up. I helped stop unethical foreclosures, fought for VA benefits owed to local vets, helped small businesses recover taxes that they were overcharged, and so much more. 

As a project manager for a Detroit manufacturer, my job is to organize and plan prototype tests while simultaneously working with international counterparts to bring business to Michigan. 

I have put my unique experience to work for Eaton County. As your commissioner, I kept a campaign promise to make transparency a top issue and passed a resolution to record all our meetings. I voted yes on a resolution to allow solar farms on agricultural zoned land. With the help of great public servants at the County, the IT and Communications Committee worked to bring more services online during the COVID pandemic. 

I hope you see the value of these efforts and consider supporting me again in 2020.

Clean up the Government

It is my belief that government, as a whole, will not work for the people until there are major reforms in election and transparency laws. There are numerous ways to achieve this, but ending the use of “Dark Money” in elections and publishing lobbyist/representative interactions would be a good start.

Clean up the Environment

The global climate crisis is perhaps the most pressing issue facing the planet. Moving towards a more sustainable economy must be a top priority. This means supporting the implementation of a new green economy here at home, encouraging sustainable material development, and transitioning away from fossil fuels. I voted to support local solar ordinances and will continue to seek out opportunities to support green energy and technology.

Advance Social and Economic Justice

Our nation has mismanaged race and socioeconomic relations for decades, if not longer. It is time we seek out and destroy existing laws that disenfranchise minority and poor communities, starting with inner city and rural communities that have been left behind. We must reinvest in those communities and make our public schools the pride of the world from coast to coast. I voted to declare racism a public health emergency. After insensitive and incorrect statements were made in the days following George Floyd’s death, I co-authored a letter signed by numerous community leaders to the Grand Ledge Public School Board. As a father of two, an elected official, and an involved community member, I believe it is my duty to challenge systemic racism and push for Social & Economic Justice.
